SCORE to Honor NaVOBA Member Patriot Taxiways in National Award Ceremony

pt image SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” announced the winners of the 2nd annual SCORE Awards for entrepreneurial excellence and support of America’s small businesses. NaVOBA member Patriot Taxiways from Lomira, Wisc. wasl named the Outstanding Veteran-owned Small Business.

The SCORE Awards gala will be held September 16 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, “The SCORE Awards celebrates and honors entrepreneurs who inspire us all with their success and innovation and the small business advocates who support entrepreneurship in America.” Yancey adds, “These small business successes represent the success of America as the economy works to recover from recession through small business innovation and job growth.”

NaVOBA Member Republic Capital Access Cuts Costs for Veteran-Owned Businesses

rca logo Republic Capital Access president and NaVOBA member Ed Stucky announced that effective immediately, veteran-owned government contractors that finance their contracts using RCA's funding program, RCAAdvantage^®, will receive a 15 percent reduction in fees.

Federal law mandates 3 percent of federal contract and subcontract awards be issued to service-disabled, veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs). Chevron's Supplier Diversity Program Includes Veteran-Owned Businesses

Chevron illustration The July-August 2010 issue of Vetrepreneur magazine featured an editorial addressing Chevron and its efforts to include veteran-owned businesses in its supplier diversity program. The supplier diversity team, while declining to provide comment for the article, did reach out and send the following message after the print deadline:

Ranked no. 3 on the Fortune 500® Chevron is the second-largest integrated energy company on the planet. It boasted annual revenues of $167 billion in 2009 and employs more than 60,000 people worldwide. Chevron spent roughly $40 billion purchasing goods and services from suppliers and contractors.

In 2009, the company spent $2.7 billion with small and medium-size businesses -- $433 million of which with women-owned businesses and an additional $319 million with minority-owned businesses.

NaVOBA Member Partners with ReSound to Land Major VA Contract

NaVOBA Member 3D Global Solutions announced that it successfully managed the proposal effort for ReSound, which recently received an award on the $800 million VA Digital Hearing Aid contract. The VA is projected to purchase over 430,000 hearing devices in 2010 alone.

Todd Murray, President ‐ GN ReSound North America, said the company is thrilled “to have 3D Global Solutions administer the contract and manage all our numerous subcontractors necessary to carry out this contract with top‐notch efficiency. We selected 3DGS based on its impressive past performance of providing unwavering service excellence in contracts of this type and magnitude.”

ReSound has committed to more than tripling the mandated SDVOB percentage by engaging 3D Global Solutions as a substantial part of their team.

New York May Pass Vetrepreneur-Friendly Legislation

Senator Addabbo NY State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens) announced the passage of legislation which would direct the NYS Division of Veterans Affairs to provide information regarding available resources to assist veterans in establishing and sustaining a business.

The bill would direct the Division of Veterans Affairs to work with the NYS Small Business Development Center and other appropriate state agencies in the establishment of the portal. The division would include this information in its newsletter and at the three seminars sponsored by the division. The information will also be posted on the division’s website and in the annual report to the governor and legislature.

The legislation passed the Senate and Assembly and will be sent to the Gov. David Paterson for approval. It’s important to note, however, that Paterson already vetoed a bill last year that hoped to create opportunities for VOBs similar to those the state offers for its minority-and women-owned businesses. This bill is a far cry from accomplishing that goal, but at least it’s a start.
